KNOW YOUR JEWELRY: SILVER
Silver is another fan-favorite among jewelry enthusiasts and fashionistas. They are one of the most commonly used in jewelry making and is much cheaper than gold. They may not cost a fortune, but you’d still find a lot of unique and superb designs that would surely make you stand out!!
Sterling Silver and Pure Silver may sound alike, but how much do you know about one of your favorite adornments?
For starters, pure silver a.k.a fine silver is too soft for jewelry making; it can easily be deformed and damaged, so it is often mixed with other metals to make it hard. When you add copper to pure silver, it results in a more durable and harder kind, known as sterling silver. In fact, you can also find stuff other than jewelry with sterling silver because of its durability, like dining ware—plates, cups, mugs, etc. However, keep in mind that while sterling silver is more durable, it is nevertheless still prone to tarnishing.
PROPER CARE FOR YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
Oh yes, they do tarnish! But you can still keep them looking good as new as long you:
- Avoid exposing them with household chemicals
- Do not rub them with paper towels. Instead, only use a polishing cloth.
- Clean your silver jewelry using mild soap and water. Pat dry with a soft cloth.
- Store your silver in a cool and dry place.
- Remove them when bathing, especially in chlorinated water.
